The New Vintage
There is an eclectic little gathering place in the heart of the UW campus that students for years now, have enjoyed mostly to themselves. The Vintage, with its low profile, is a well kept secret of sorts. A restaurant and bar where students like to gather with friends at the end of each day and unwind, sip a martini, and watch the world go by. Or at least all the traffic as it barrels down E. Gorham, rounds the corner and heads off onto University. You'll almost always see a line snaking out the door. And on hot summer nights, the outdoor sidewalk patio is chock full of the young and hip enjoying all the people watching.
As the campus version of the Vintage continues to serve up a healthy dose of success, there has been a graduation of sorts to a second new location on Madison's west side. One, that seems a better draw for a UW students older sibling and the very hip and plentiful Gen X crowds that call Madison home. While there are a great number of places for these crowds to go (mainly on and off the square), it could just be the west side watering hole this generation has been looking for, for quite some time.
The new restaurant and bar features a very cozy, retro (hence the name) atmosphere with warm rose colored tones throughout the space, bold leather booths and a menu that features both comfort food and the best of New American cuisine.
Perhaps the best part of Vintage giving new life to the old JT Whitney's space, is that the owners plan to soon start brewing their own brand of beer.
